We are a unit of the Warsaw University of Technology, the largest and highest-ranked technical university in Poland. Being one of the labs of the Institute of Telecommunications, we conduct world-class research in the area of information and communications technologies. And constituting a part of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, we offer a global-class academics in the field of communications and computer networks and services.

We conduct courses at all study levels. Our introductory courses on the architecture and operations of communications networks and services, and on the architecture and technologies of the Internet are obligatory for all lower-semester students of the faculty. At the engineer-level studies we provide courses on the theory of communications and computer networks and services, and on all major kinds of networks and services, as well as on the methodology of computer networks system design, and on designing mobile services and applications, and designing IoT systems. Then we conduct master-level studies courses on the theory of network virtualisation and softwarised networks, on the management of networks and services, on the methodology of designing computer networks software, and designing IoT applications, and on the mathematical methods of network optimisation and performance analysis.

We offer students to be their diploma thesis advisors at the engineer, master and doctoral-level studies. While in each case students get the degree in telecommunications, the particular speciality of the BSc and MSc studies is computer networks, and computer networks and cybersecurity, respectively. Under our supervision students can work in one of three research areas of networks and clouds, services and applications, and Internet of Things. They may further concentrate either on the problems of system and software design or on the issues of network and service management. The particular research areas of PhD studies are network optimisation models and methods, and network and service orchestration.

We participate on a regular basis in large research and development projects funded by the European Union, mainly pertaining to packet optical transport networks, 4G/5G mobile networks, and Internet of Things systems. In parallel, we systematically carry out highly theoretical research projects funded by Poland's National Science Centre, large part of them in the area of network optimisation models and methods. We also do application research for our commercial partners, in particular, communications network operators, for which we do network planning and network analysis, and develop network design systems.

Publications

We present the results of our research in around 15 highly technical journal and conference papers a year. We usually choose for publication well recognised area-specific journals like Networks, Telecommunication Systems, Operations Research, Journal of Applied Mathematics, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Ad Hoc Networks, IEEE Pervasive Computing, Wireless Personal Communications. And we present the papers at community-appreciated cyclic conferences such as INOC, NETWORKS, ICTON, ONDM, apart from largest, global ICT conference events like INFOCOM and ICC.

We occupy one floor in wing C of our Nowowiejska 15/19 faculty building. Our comfortable and modern lecture halls and laboratories, and our data center, are all located in a newly built industrial-style extension of the wing. In our laboratory rooms we have radio access nodes, private branch exchanges, communications protocol testers, IoT nodes and controllers, electronic measurements equipment. We also have a virtualised lab with network emulation and virtualisation software, network management and service platforms, application development and runtime environments, system simulation and optimisation packages.

We are a team of more than 15 experienced lecturers and researchers with diverse research interests and different specialities in the field of ICT. Each of us holds either the DSc or the PhD degree, and we also have full-title professors in our group. Many of us have been coordinators of EU's and national research projects. Some of us have also worked in research centres of communications network operators (Orange, T-Mobile), research departments of communications solutions providers (Alcatel, Lucent, Nokia), and high technology, hardware and software, SME companies.
