We conduct advanced research in the areas of 5G networks, Internet-of-Things, mobile and IoT applications, NFV and cloud computing, network management and service orchestration, as well as design and optimisation of packet optical transport networks and wireless networks.

We participate, on a regular basis, in international research and development projects funded via research programmes of the European Union. In doing so, we cooperate with important European players, both in industry and academia. Our project partners are major global communications network operators and solution providers, Orange, British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, leading European universities, world-wide known research institutes, in particular, Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin ZIB and Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, government institutions such as Bundeskriminalamt (Federal Criminal Police Office) and Universität der Bundeswehr from Germany, and multiple high-tec European SME companies.

We also systematically carry out projects funded by prestigious Poland’s government agencies, National Science Centre and National Centre for Research and Development: in particular, these are highly theoretical research projects in the area of network optimisation models and methods.

We also have bilateral research cooperation with leading European universities from France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Portugal. In recent years we have cooperated particularly intensively with Université de Technologie de Compiègne, Université d’Avignon, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Politecnico di Milano, Lunds Universitet, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Universidade de Aveiro.

We are always keen to commercialise the results of our research. Thus, we do research and development work for commercial partners, in particular, we do network planning and network analysis, and develop network design systems for communications network operators in Poland such as Orange.

We publish the results of our research, apart from project-related research reports, in well recognised area-specific journals like Networks, Telecommunication Systems, Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, Optical Switching and Networking, Operations Research, Journal of Applied Mathematics, Journal of Systems and Software, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, Ad Hoc Networks, IEEE Pervasive Computing, Wireless Personal Communications, as well as well known electronic journals such as ENDM and LNCS.

Obviously, we present the papers, and also give keynote talks, at community-appreciated cyclic conferences such as International Network Optimisation Conference INOC, NETWORKS, International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks ICTON, International Conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling ONDM, apart from largest, global ICT conference events like INFOCOM and ICC. We are also co-organisers of some of those conferences, in particular NETWORKS and INOC.

CNSD is seeking partners, including industrial ones (for example software and hardware vendors, solution providers, or network and service operators). We are equally eager to work with big players, SME’s, and start-ups. Notably, we see and stress the benefits coming from our students’ participation in joint activities and their getting familiar with our industrial partners. Needless to say, there are great opportunities in joint reasearch and development work in the areas mentioned above. If you are interested, we could start by applying for a new project together!
